Retaining Walls

We build stone, brick and block retaining walls that hold the grade and stay straight. That includes terraced walls for sloped yards and rebuilds of walls that have started to lean.

How we do it

When a retaining wall leans, the cause is usually behind it: a shallow footing, water building up in the soil, or both. Ours start with a solid footing. Behind the wall goes gravel backfill, with drains and weep holes to let the water out, because North Texas clay holds water.

Taller walls, or walls holding back a driveway or a slope near a structure, may need an engineered design and a city permit. We'll tell you up front if yours does and work with the engineer when it's needed.

Call about a slope that washes out or a yard you'd like to level, even without a design in mind. We'll walk it with you and work out the wall's height, layout and drainage.

Questions we hear about retaining walls

Why is my old retaining wall leaning?

Usually it's water pressure behind the wall, a footing that wasn't deep enough, or both. We'll look at it and tell you whether it can be repaired or needs to be rebuilt.

Do I need a permit?

For taller walls, often yes. Many DFW cities require a permit and an engineered design once a wall passes a set height, and the rule changes from city to city. We'll check for your address before we quote.
