Growing fast
Mansfield, Burleson and Waxahachie have added a lot of new neighborhoods, and new homes mean brick and stone exteriors, flower beds, grills and the screening walls along the roads into each subdivision.
Clay soil to the east, firmer ground to the west
Ellis County is mostly heavy prairie clay that swells and shrinks with the weather, the same ground that cracks brick across Dallas. Johnson County varies more from one side to the other. We look at each lot and size the footings and walls for its ground.
Older brick downtown
Waxahachie and the older town centers around it have historic brick that's worth keeping. Repairs there have to match old brick and soft mortar closely, and cleaning has to be gentle enough not to damage a face that's been weathering for a century.
Retaining walls and permits
Most cities in the area require a permit, and often an engineered design, for a retaining wall over about four feet tall or one that holds up a driveway, a pool or a slope behind a house. The exact rule varies from city to city, so we check with the building department before we quote a tall wall, and we tell you up front when an engineer needs to be involved.
